The Rising Star Student Entrepreneur Award, now in its forth year, was created in partnership with the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship to highlight innovative and resourceful students already running their own businesses. 2019’s winner is Erica Szymanski, Erica Morgan Designs in Severna Park, nominated by Severna Park High School.


  • ‣Turned her original watercolor
    drawings of local landmarks into
    a line of fun, colorful and
    preppy car accessories

  • Expanded the business from her
    initial batch of 100 stickers

  • Offering eight designs sold through
    22 retailers across 5 states

  • Increased profits by over 4,000%, with an average profit margin of 66% over the three years

  • Relies heavily on social media and craft fairs to promote her business

  • Erica will attend the University of Virginia this fall, plans to continue working on the business and launch a new ocean-themed children’s book
