The winner of the 2019 Small Business Person of the Year Award is Phadra Hanks of Hanks, Hanks & Associates (HHA) in Waldorf, Maryland nominated by Hanks, Hanks and Associates.

  • Opened Hanks, Hanks & Associates in 2002 from her home
  • Worked with the MD Small Business Development Center to perfect her business plan, received a SBA loan
  • Expanded the business from the original accounting services to now also offering computer and administrative services and performing general management consulting
  • Employs 125 employees in three states
  • Sticks to the basics: believe in yourself and always be true to yourself and your values
  • Takes care of her employees like they are her family and putting her best foot forward, always exceeding her customer’s expectations
  • Is a highly sought after speaker, coaching others on a variety of topics
  • Donates to Hope Place, providing holiday gifts and assistance to families affected by domestic violence
  • Works closely with the WOW Legacy Group, helping women transition from public assistance to
    the workforce
