The winner of the 2016 Small Business Person of the Year Award is Patrick Munis, CEO & President of New Wave Telecom & Technologies in Elkridge, nominated by New Wave Telecom & Technologies.
You’d be hard pressed to find a better living illustration of the American Dream than Patrick. As a small child, Patrick and his family immigrated to the United States from Lagos, Nigeria. He devoted himself to his studies, ultimately attending college and majoring in both Computer Science and Mathematics. His love of learning and self-improvement continued and he went on to receive his Executive MBA at MIT while operating NewWave full-time.
Founded in 2004, and certified by the SBA as an 8(a) Small Business, NewWave is a full-service Information Technology (IT) and Business Services company. They specialize in developing mission-critical Healthcare IT solutions using state-of-the-art technologies. NewWave introduces technical innovation and expertise in a wide variety of large-scale, data-driven, and analytic engagements across the Healthcare industry. Patrick collaborates closely with his partners through every phase of the project lifecycle to identify requirements, define objectives, and develop and implement quality solutions that meet critical needs.
Patrick draws from his guiding principle of continuous improvement to lead NewWave Technologies. He believes you are only as good as your last successful endeavor. As long as the world keeps moving, his standard will always be an upward-moving target.
Under his leadership, NewWave has grown tremendously over the years, both in size and scope. Patrick just opened a satellite office in Baltimore and is expanding the main office to accommodate over 150 employees. Annual revenues have soared to over $19 million dollars.
This success didn’t happen overnight though; it was carefully orchestrated. Patrick makes deliberate management decisions and used the SBA’s 8(a) Business Development Program and SBA financing to grow the business. Today, because of Patrick’s dedication to customer care and innovative solutions, NewWave has earned the reputation as a trusted and reliable government contractor and an industry leader.
Patrick does not take his success for granted and is happy to share his time and resources in the community. As the leader of a corporation that cares about comprehensive wellness, he encourages philanthropic involvement through corporate fundraising events as well as the institution of a Paid Volunteer Time Off Program for employees who serve others.
Among Patrick’s numerous affiliations are: the Children’s National Medical Center, Lupus Walk and the March of Dimes. Last year, NewWave sponsored a team of 15 Tour de Cure riders, who rode an astounding 262 miles and collected over $6,000 dollars in support of the American Diabetes Association.
