Accountant Advocate of the Year

Macushla Wiedorn

The 2016 Accountant Advocate is Macushla “Cush” Wiedorn of Common Sense Income Tax Preparation in Severna Park, nominated by the Greater Severna Park Chamber.

Not one to shy away from a challenge, Cush joined the US Navy fresh out of college. She was one of the first ten women to be assigned to shipboard duty and quickly rose in rank to Surface Warfare Officer, only the second female to achieve the distinction. She retired from active duty and continued in the US Navy Reserves for 23 years, finally retiring in 2008 with the rank of Captain.

Soon after, Cush set her sights on a new challenge and worked for many years in Quality Control and Audit positions. Her next, and likely most important job, was that of “stay at home” mom. Once her children were in school full time, Cush began working as a seasonal tax preparer. It wasn’t long before she knew she needed to be her own boss. She wanted the flexibility to work more closely with her clients and to be able to tailor her services and fees to meet their needs. Cush prides herself on her attention to detail and going above and beyond for her clients, even making house calls to visit home-bound clients. She also frequently presents small business workshops such as “The 7 Deadly Sins of Starting a Business” and “You Don’t Want to Be Pen Pals with the IRS.”

Cush is an active member of the Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce, a Fellow with the National Tax Practitioners Institute and is active with Support Unlimited Groups for business networking.
